Straits is committed to facilitating the preservation of local customs and protection of significant Indigenous and European cultural heritage and religious areas in all localities in which it operates. The Company’s Community and Heritage Policy, and Straits Procedures - Heritage Management Planning (Australia), define the principles upon which Straits conducts its exploration and mining activities in conjunction with local communities.
All development works are implemented to minimise the risk of impact to significant cultural or religious sites as a first principle. If in the rare circumstance, a proposed development may need to proceed that could compromise a site of cultural or religious significance, full engagement with key local stakeholders is conducted and if a suitable resolution is identified (subject to statutory approvals), fair and reasonable compensation is negotiated in accordance with management procedures to protect any further impacts to sites within the region.
Straits is very proud of its record in working with Indigenous communities throughout Australia and Indonesia, and will continue to commit to a high level of engagement with the communities within which we work.
